Rosarito On The Cheap: A Brand New Fest for Feasting

You can't go wrong with Rosarito

If you have not been to Rosarito lately, I suggest you plan a trip. Our quiet little town is growing up...big time!

We just had a brand new cultural/arts center open. In the middle of the tourist zone there is a brand new Rosarito arch. This is not reminiscent of the St. Louis arch, as is the one in Tijuana. This arch is very modernistic and is almost a square in shape. It lights up at night and really makes downtown feel like there is a party going on. In the last six months we have had a proliferation of new restaurants opening. We now have a good number of world class restaurants, but also many new choices in the cheap eats category.

[p]Last year Tijuana got the new Food Garden at Plaza Rio and this year Rosarito got the brand new Food Fest. This is located at the south end of the Festival Plaza Hotel. It is just a short block north of the iconic Rosarito Beach Hotel. This new food mall is completely outside and has six different restaurants with six different kinds of cuisines, plus a designer beer garden. And the prices are all in the very reasonable category no matter which you are in the mood for. Most of the restaurants currently have a special combo deal, including the main item, potatoes and a drink for anywhere in the range of $89 to $110 pesos, or $5 USD to 6$ USD.

So far I have two favorite restaurants of the six, but I am sure this will change as I try more of them. I had the hamburger at OMG Burgers and with the first bite, I got it! It was that good. For $5 USD pesos you can get a combo with fries and drink. That is not the cheapest burger in Rosarito by a long shot, but it is one of the best, if not the best, at a really fair price. The burger was not just a small patty. The burger was a full quarter pound and had a lot of flavor from the open grill and spices. It comes on a homemade sesame seed bun that adds to the goodness. It also comes with cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and onion slices and more. Another time I had their chicken burger for $6 USD, and it also had the wow factor going on. Two large pieces of chicken breast grilled and added to that bun with all the requisite condiments. All the burgers come with french fries at no extra price. Also they have a drink that they bottle themselves that is so refreshing and must be at least a little healthy.

It is a lemon chia drink. If bought separately for just $16 pesos, or less than a dollar. Love it!

[p]The other place that I keep going back to is the Bettucini's stall. We have the original Bettucini's in Rosarito with a much larger menu and a fancy inside facility. They have another small one in the Food Garden in Tijuana. They must be doing really well at that one if they decided to open a second small one, so close to their original large location (within a half mile of each other). I like that they have a wood burning oven here and make small, individual pizzas. The pepperoni pizza is just $4.4 USD pesos and I always take half home for a second meal. A really good deal. Besides from the full range of pizzas (both individual and large sizes), they have lasagna on the menu along with their famous salads.

This is a great vantage point to sit outside and watch the world go by. There are lots of great dining choices here that I will continue to talk about in the future.

Nothing has been disappointing yet. Who knows, maybe one day you might see Rosarito's newest resident, Charlie Sheen, walking by or coming for one of those OMG burgers.
