The Tijuana Wax Museum Offers a Unique Experience

If you are in the city, you better not miss it

Maybe a lot of Tijuana natives are like myself: We know this place exists but we never give ourselves a chance to spend some time inside its walls. At the end of First Street (calle Primera) in Downtown Tijuana you will find this weirdly magical place called Museo de Cera Tijuana, opened for 23 years and it's one of a kind in this city.

Me, being in my 20s, had never entered before, but the intention was always there, especially when I walked in front of it with my friends.

A couple of days ago I stumbled upon this place and I thought to myself "it's NOW or NEVER", so without much further ado I paid 20 pesos (1.50 dlls) for the entrance and began the walk through it.

Several times, a friend of mine always mocks the place and how the wax figures looked old, ugly and how they were a waste of time without a single touch of entertainment (you know who you are, so if you're reading this let me tell you how bad of a critic you are, everyone has their opinion, but the place is far from awful).

El Museo de Cera Tijuana has 4 themed rooms, which you can find in these kind of places: Country History, International Politics, Movies & Showbiz, and Terror.

I got very surprised with the quality of the figures because I've visited other Wax Museums of Mexico and there's worse figures out there than these ones. No John Lennon would be perfectly represented, no matter if it's the Mexico City Wax Museum… so the one at Tijuana has better representations and they actually LOOK ALIKE. Bedazzling.

Frida Kahlo looks practically the same, as well as Famous Mexican Character Cantinflas. Michael Jackson looks very decent and works perfectly fine for an Instagram picture. Miguel Hidalgo was a good try, but with Verito Castro? they even helped her look better.

Porfirio Diaz appearance was alright, Vicente Fox, easy as pie. Luis Miguel and Marylin Monroe may not be the best but you see the resemblance. Barack Obama also has a very accurate wax copy.

The museum is small and only has 93 wax figures, several of them are part of Tijuana culture, such as Juan Soldado and Tia Juana. The entrance price is very cheap and it's definitely a very good way of spending your time, even more if you are a tourist.
