The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) decided that marijuana will still appear on the list of drugs with a "high potential for abuse" and "no accepted medical use", same category where you can find heroin and ecstasy.
Former Governors of Rhode Island and the state of Washington had requested the Government to analyze the possibility of reclassify marijuana in Category II, where the substance consumption is accepted for medical treatments; such as morphine, opium, and cocaine.
"The Health Department assured that cannabis has a high potential for abuse, and that's why the DEA determined that this drug has to stay in Category I under the law of controlled substances", expressed Chuck Rosenberg, DEA Director.
Despite the panorama, Arizona, California , Massachusetts , Maine and Nevada, will decide in the November elections if the recreational use of marijuana is approved in their own states.
