This Olympic Sprinter is Trained by His Grandmother

And broke the world record

Wayde Van Nieker, a South African sprinter, broke the world record last week in the 400 m. race, and his personal trainer is his grandmother, believe it or not.

Turns out that former sprinter, Ans Botha, has been training runners since the 60s, and she chose her grandson as her apprentice.

One of the assistants of Botha, who has worked with her during 25 years, assures that grandma and grandson are "particularly united, very connected and they respect each other so much."

But things are more complex, for there is order, rules, and norms that Ans applies with lot of discipline during training and at the moment of the competition.

She added that "Wayde knows where he stands thanks to me", plus, he benefits from all the knowledge and skills she has taught him.

Van Nieker could beat the last 400 m record by Michael Johnson, which was the fastest for 19 years. Now the time to beat is 40.03 seconds. The only advice we can come up with is that he should keep listening to his grandma in this matter.
