New $40 Million Dollar Mixed-Use Project Planned in Tijuana Near Airport

A Real State company from Monterrey is planning to build a mall with hotels, apartments and a health center.

Monterrey based real estate company Loma Desarrollos has announced an almost 40 million dollar mixed-used project in Tijuana, planned to be the first of its kind in the Mesa de Otay area of the city, near the airport.

The "Alameda Otay Town Center" project will revolutionize the area and the concept of existing shopping centers in the city with its proposed mixed-use and modular design, rather than the traditional enclosed mall.

The project is slated to include shopping spaces, hotels, medical center and even apartment, the first of its kind in the Mesa de Otay area of the city, only a few feet from the Tijuana International Airport.

It will be more than 968,000 square feet of development, which will become an architectural environment connected by a new road.

José Luis Flores, executive director of Loma Desarrollos, explained that the project will be located in the airport area in the city of Tijuana.

The construction of the building will happen in two stages: First, the 968,000 square feet of initial development, then the current Soriana supermarket will move to where the Comercial Mexicana supermarket currently is, so that the old Soriana building can be remodeled beginning in December 2017.

Meanwhile, Planning Director Fernando Solorzano said that the building will have a capacity of 551 parking spaces and an area of 17 thousand 547 meters of underground parking.

He added that several brands have already been confirmed as tenants for the project, like Starbucks, Cinemex movie theaters, C&A, financial services and others. Loma Desarrollos is still waiting to close a deal with a hotel and an apartment chain.
