The ICON Aircraft Company started working on Thursday at their new Tijuana plant, and decided that the esplanade of the Cultural Center of Tijuana (CECUT) would be the perfect place to promote themselves.

Addressing representatives from several levels of government and private industry, managers of ICON Aircraft announced that the opening of the new plant will help production of their model A5, a sport amphibious aircraft that combines flight with the ability to land and move on water.

This exact model will be manufactured at the new plant in Tijuana, located in the industrial Thomas Alba Edisonarea.

The company is investing 150 million in its new installation in the city, which by early 2017 will generate over a thousand jobs.

The arrival of ICON Aircraft to Tijuana confirms the city's strong position in the Aerospace Industry, where 20 percent of the 300 companies are registered in the country.

Kirk Hawkins, CEO of the company, said that Tijuana became the ideal site for the production of components, due to its infrastructure, its established industry, its workforce and qualified labor force. Also, its proximity to its assembly plant in California in the U.S. was very convenient.
