For locals, the changes Tijuana Downtown has experimented through the years had been very noticeable thanks to a variety of projects, such as #ElCentroEsLaOnda (Downtown is cool), which seeks to implement new spaces to live, promote art, and disseminate culture and entertainment.

But, why all the fuss? What is exactly Cine Tonalá? This is a multidisciplinary project focused on cinema, performing arts and gastronomy. The first establishment was build in the City of Mexico in the Roma neighborhood; headquarters are in Bogota, Colombia.
Cine Tonalá has been on the run for 4 years and acts as a meeting point for filmmakers, creators, and creative leaders of Latin America.
This extension of Tonalá in Tijuana will have a theater with a 90 people capacity, the board will offer independent, foreign and Mexican movies for everybody's enjoyment, added to that, this room will also be used for dance and stand-up comedy performances, and theater plays as well. A restaurant and a bar will be managed by regional Chefs, and brewers and mixologists will have the chance of offering the city only the best of the best.

This project is possible thanks to Adriana Trujillo and Jose Inerzia, two of the most famous filmmakers of the region who seek to promote film culture.
"After working for so many years, making movies and coordinating BocDocs - the most important festival of the region- it was a logic step to take in order to promote the film culture in the region," said Jose Inerzia during the project presentation last Sept. 21 of 2016 at the #ElCentroEsLaOnda event.
