CBP Now Accepting I-94 Permit PAYMENT Online

A new tool will speed up the process, but you will still have to ask for a permit at the border

U.S. Customs and Border Protection(CBP) made an announcement today that shook foreign citizens traveling into the country beyond the traditional 25 miles or more inland. The I-94 application can now be filled and paid online, which will accelerate the process by avoiding the long waiting lines.

Foreign nationals will be able to speed up their I-94 by providing their biographic and travel information on the online application, seven days prior to their entry.

The process is complete when the traveler presents his or herself at a land port of entry to submit biometrics, if needed, and other personal information, such as proof of residence and employment data. This won't always be the case, but you do have to be prepared when crossing.

Payment is standard, as any other purchase (credit card, debit card, direct debit or Paypal), and, the fee is still $6.00 dlls.

"This automated functionality increases the efficiency of the entry process and reduces administrative duties for CBP officers—ultimately resulting in shorter waits for travelers requiring an I-94." said Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske

A decrease in paper usage, efficiency during processing, and reduced operating costs are some of the benefits of this drastic but necessary change.
