Baja Government to Promote Responsible Alcohol Consumption with New Program

Is called "Responsible Waiter" and will train establishments selling alcoholic beverages

TIJUANA.- The Baja California state government will join forces with the Ministry Tourism (SECTURE) and Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma Heineken Mexico, to start a program called "Responsible Waiter", which is made to prevent accidents and derived problems caused by the excessive alcohol consumption.

Enrique Rangel, Quality and Cultural Manager of SECTURE, stressed that this initiative is part of the "Intelligent consumption" program activities, which was signed last August by the State Facility and Heineken Mexico Beer Company to encourage a healthiest environment in city's night life.

He also pointed out that to improve the tourist sector, these linking programs are necessary to offer a first quality service while preventing consumers to exceed their alcohol limit.

The Coordinator of Sustainability and Institutional Relations of Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma Heineken Mexico, Abril Cereceres, said that the "Responsible Waiter" program was created back in 2005 and has managed to train more than 11 thousand people (owners, waiters, bar staff) in several Bars and Restaurants of the region.

"This program/workshop is made to train 40 people in a timeframe of 4 hours, where subjects such as responsibility, alcoholic beverages culture, consumption patterns, alcohol effects in the blood, myths and realities of alcohol, and communication dynamics of persuasion are addressed." said Cereceres.

"Responsible Bartender" will start next Oct. 24 in Tijuana, Tuesday Oct. 25 in Mexicali, Wednesday Oct. 26 in Tecate, and Thursday Oct. 27 in Ensenada. It is estimated that 160 waiters and bar staff are going to be trained at a state level in customer service and alcohol consumption awareness.

Companies interested in register can do it for free by calling SECTURE offices.
