Baja Wins Best Craft Beer and Brewery in Mexico

Several brewers and their products were the big winners of the 2016 Mexico Beer Cup

Baja California craft beers are having an enormous success right now, both in sales, creativity and pushing their brands worldwide, so it was no surprise that on Thursday night at the annual craft beer contest "Cerveza Mexico DF", beers from the state won the Gold and Silver medals.

Baja has tasted victory in this matter before, mostly in local competitions, but this year was different, for the best brewery of the country is from Baja California, all according to international experts in the area of craft beers. Organized by the agency Mx Beer Cup , the events aims to recognize domestic beers in different categories.

In more than ten categories and with dozens of microbrews from around the country, Baja California brewers triumphed. This time, the Ensenada Brewery, Wendlandt, was the winner for best craft beer in the country with its Flanders Red Ale "Wendlandt 2015", besides winning a second gold medal for his Ale Harry Polanco.

Wendlandt has been one of the breweries in the state that has excelled in recent years.

One of the most awarded breweries was Cerveceria Urbana from Mexicali, which was crowned as "Best Craft Beer Brewery in Mexico." They also won 4 gold medals for their Blonde Ale, Porter, Crossover IPA and Mosaic Saison IPA.

Many of the participants have already published in their social networks their victories, positioning the craft beer industry of Baja California as the best in the country.

Among the award winners we can mention Insurgente, Fauna, Silenus, Bösiger, Agua Mala, // C, Legion, and Border Psycho.

According to brewers associations from Tijuana, Mexicali and Ensenada, there are over a hundred producers in Baja California who cook about 200 thousand liters of beer per month -30% of the drink nationwide-. This activity has an impact of 200 million pesos (around $100,000 dlls) in the state's economy, and generates 200 direct jobs and 400 indirect jobs.
