Pusrsuit near the U.S -Mexico Border

Two men were taken into custody after crashing their SUV while trying to elude U.S. Border Patrol agents.

Two men were taken into custody about 9 a.m. Monday after crashing their sports utility vehicle on Otay Valley Road in Chula Vista while trying to elude U.S. Border Patrol agents, who began their pursuit near the U.S.-Mexico border.

The two men , whose nationalities have not been released yet, were not seriously hurt, Border Patrol spokesman Jerry Conlin said.

Their Ford Expedition crashed after the driver tried to maneuver a right hand turn on Otay Valley Road near the White Water Canyon theme park at a high rate of speed, Conlin said.

The pursuit began after the driver of the Ford Expedition failed to yield to a Border Patrol command to stop on state Route 905 near Cactus Road. The driver went on Interstate 805, took the exit on Palm Avenue, made a U-turn back to the freeway and took the exit on Main Street before heading to Otay Valley Road, Conlin said.

Information was not available yet on whether agents found any contraband in their vehicle or why they were ordered to stop in the first place.
