Tijuana is some kind of a "Twilight Zone" for locals and tourists, where you pay in pesos but rents are in dollars, where traditional food is a mix of Asian, Mexican, and Mediterranean cuisine, and where the architecture acts as a perfect excuse to combine with the culture and lifestyle of citizens by sometimes getting the inspiration from other parts of the world.
No surprise then that there are several iconic Tijuana buildings that look a lot like other ones around the globe, in a desire for the city to "imitate" what already works somewhere else. Tacky? Sure, maybe, but kind of endearing also . We now present you a list of 5 famous "imitations" of constructions/buildings around the world that can be found at this border city.
1.- Las Torres

When was it built? Known as "Las Torres", the construction of the Grand Hotel started in 1979, and three years later was the official opening.
Location: Agua Caliente Blvd 4558
Looks like: The twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York, until the terrorist attacks on Septemebr 11, 2001.

2.- Pedestrian Bridge Ferrocarril

When was it built? In the current year (2016). Even though this bridge is open to the public some changes are still being made. And if you keep going, you'll see three more similar bridges on the Via Rapida
Location: Just a few meters from the famous Lazaro Cardenas High School, the bridge joins Paseo de los Héroes and Paseo Centenario.
Looks Like: San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge (or other famous suspension bridges).

3.- Walk of Fame Tijuana

When was it created? The first Star was put on 2014. Today, 26 Stars parade at the feet of almost every "Tijuanense."
Location: Revolución Av. in front of the historic building Jai Alai.
Looks like: the Hollywood Walk of Fame in L.A. (this was an easy one).

4.- The Christ of Los Alamos

When was it built? The inauguration was in 2000, and the structure is more than 23 meters tall, also, it has 21 sculptures around it.
Location: Parish San Martin de Porras in Los Alamos neighborhood.
Looks like: The Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with more than 30 meters tall.

5.- Arco Monumental

When was it built? in 2001, The Arc is 60 meters tall and started with a clock, now it has a big screen.
Location: Between Plaza Santa Cecilia and Revolución Av.
Looks like: Gateway Arch in St. Louis, US. The construction began in 1963 and has more than 190 meters tall.
