It has been through national and international competitions that craft beer of Baja California has demonstrated to be really special and one of the best, and even though the product is always outstanding, it is also important to enjoy it in a place where you feel comfortable. That's why Tasting Rooms are key to make the whole experience a memorable thing.

The "boom" of craft beer started with the availability of space in the now meeting point for all kinds of beer and gourmet food called "Plaza Fiesta" in Tijuana, where new breweries had the opportunity of showing everyone what they got.

These kind of spaces have been growing in other parts of the state as well, so no one gets left out on this movement. Talking about craft beer, is talking about Baja.

Therefore, our nominees for "Best Tasting Room" this year include representatives from Tijuana, Mexicali and Ensenada, a difficult situation knowing that probably several should be represented here, but for the sake of space, couldn't.

Here are the nominees for best tasting room in Baja California:

1.- Insurgente

This small and minimalistic place is the perfect spot to grab a beer after work or school, a safe location to taste beer with special touches of flavor.

If you are a craft beer enthusiast, or a cerevisaphile if it suits you better, then you surely have been sitting on those wooden tables waiting for a "Lupulosa," or another liquid marvel from Insurgente. Yes, the place is a bit small, but hey! is perfect for friends reunions anyway.

2.- Wendlandt

This is a worthy nominee from Ensenada. Wendlandt brewery has been growing at a really accelerated pace and winning several quality awards.

Their success attracts many people to their Tasting Room at Blvd. Costero in Ensenada, plus, the beer is cooked in San Diego, and many go visit there too.

Wendlandt is known for their very colorful bottle tags, so besides having a good flavor, the design is noteworthy.

3.- Norte Brewing Co.

This was the Best Tasting Room of 2015, but we decided to include it again because people are very loyal to the crew of Norte, also, their business growth has been an important part of the city, added to that, the place offers an amazing view of Tijuana streets and buildings.

Norte worked with new recipes during the year, added to that, they started selling food to improve this spot at a 5th floor in a parking lot of Downtown Tijuana.

4.- Fauna

This Tasting Room is located in Tijuana and the brewery is from Mexicali. Fauna beers taste mythical, very strong and with lots of character.

Besides having the options of tasting their house beers, you will normally find beers from other breweries, such as Wendlandt's "Pussy Octopus."

5.- Doble C.

This brewery began its journey two years ago, is located in front of Playa Hermosa, Ensenada and is also part of the craft beer wonders of this city, where wine and craft beer collide perfectly.

Doble C won two medals at the beer cup this year.

6.- Paralelo 28

Paralelo 28 is another great spot at Plaza Fiesta in Tijuana, it has several good beers and the environment is very relaxed. This tasting room has wooden tables in a terrace with a nice view of the main hall of the Plaza.

They also have a place in the city of Ensenada at Colectivo Cervecero BajaBrews.

7.- Agua Mala

Agua Mala is located in Ensenada and, as many spaces, it kept growing thanks to people that appreciated the product.

This place has an amazing ocean view and welcomes all tourists, locals, and "curiosers" that would like to try their beer.

A kitchen is part of Agua Mala's magic and the food quality is excellent.

8.- Border Psycho

Border Psycho's Tasting Room at Plaza Fiesta could not be left out of this list. Their unique brewing creations are gathered in this space dedicated almost entirely to the craft beer breweries of Baja.

Border Psycho has shown us that in its first year it has captured the attention of beer lovers.

9.- The Show- Beer Rock Bar

The city of Mexicali is not far behind in the quality of beer tasting, however, if there is something that distinguishes The Beer Show Rock Bar, the home of brewery 3B (Big Bad Brewing) is that they have a stage in which local artists are presented almost daily, and sometimes, international bands.

Of course, this is just a complement to their wide variety of beers that go perfectly with the heat of the city. The Show Beer Rock Bar is a great tasting room because its owners, in addition to making beer and work the bar, they worry that each person who visit them leave the place very content.
