UABC Will Grow its Own Plants For Edible Use

Eco- orchard inauguration at the Autonomous University of Baja California

TIJUANA.- The past rainy Dec. 16 the Faculty of Chemical Sciences and Engineering of the Tijuana campus of the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) inaugurated the first orchard in the facilities of the institution where they expect to harvest edible fruits.

The eco-orchard "Pachamama" is a project designed for the university community, as an area of coexistence and human development. The field of 20 x 30 meters will be worked by the same students of the faculty who participated in the call of the Mexican Institute of the Youth.

At the moment, because the students do not have much experience on cultivation, they will begin to plant plants of chiles and tea. However, Jocelyn Kate Valladolid, co-founder of the orchard, said that they will have the advice of an agronomist to achieve great results.
