Celebrate Chinese New Year in CECUT

Have fun Jan. 28 at 6:00 pm

On Jan. 28 the Chinese New Year begins, and according to the oriental zodiac this is the Year of the Rooster, and the Tijuana Cultural Center will held a celebration in the esplanade at 6:00 pm.

The rooster is the tenth of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac and 2017 corresponds to the Rooster of Fire, the first living creature by the Goddess Nuwa. According to ancient Chinese mythology, God Pangu created nature and then the goddess Nuwa created humans.

Pangu created the roosters on day 1, the dogs on day 2, the pigs on day 3, the goat on day 4, the ox on day 5 and the horse on day 6. The rooster was created so that humans knew the time, the dog for companionship, the pig and the goat for food, and the ox and the horse to help the human being to work in the field.

Being the first living being on Earth, the rooster had an important role to play in the human world. Each year of the zodiac is associated with one of the five elements of the Chinese elementary theory: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth. Two thousand seventeen is the Year of the Rooster of Fire, which is repeated once every 60 years, and is considered as a honorable and sober time.

The Chinese New Year celebration is coordinated by José René Márquez Castañeda, teacher of Kung Fu and Tai Chi workshops at CECUT, and is open to the public at no cost.
