Budget Cuts in Mexico Endanger Major Infrastructure Projects in Tijuana

Including the much awaited Paso Express 20 de Noviembre Interchange

Construction of the Paso Express 20 de Noviembre Interchange and the Aeropuerto Interchange could be suspended for lack of public money. According to the Baja Ministry of Infrastructure and Urban Development of the State (SIDUE), the costs of the materials have gone up so now the state projects can’t be finalized.

Gabriel Arvizu, delegate of SIDUE Tijuana, said the streets that are closed by the public work on 20 de Noviembre will be reinstated in March 15 however he clarified that the public work will not be completed.

In the case of the works of the Paso Express Aeropueto, they affirm it's 90 percent finished but they lack 35 million pesos to finish the work.

Arvizu points out that although the public works started in February 2016, the rising cost of gasoline and the dollar have exceeded the budget presented at the beginning of the project.
