The "Little Haiti" Project in Tijuana Has Been Receiving Phone Threats

Some Tijuana residents don't agree on Haitians residing in their city

People working or even supporting the construction of a "Little Haiti" district in Tijuana have received threats by phone as they disagree with the presence of immigrants in the area, but the project is still ongoing.

"Every day there are people who insult me and my family for what we are doing, they argue that Haitians should not be here. I think they are racist people and say all kinds of insults because we are helping them," explained Gustavo Banda, pastor of the Church "Embajadores de Jesus" (Ambassadors of Jesus).

According to Uniradio Informa, the Alacrán Canyon area in the Divina Providencia Neighborhood was originally meant for recreation and sports facilities, but due to lack of government support and being a property that the pastor of the church is paying for, he decided to build 22 houses for Haitian refugees instead.
