About 30 Companies in Baja Have Requested Haitian Immigrant Labor

The head of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, Juana Laura Pérez, reported

The head of the State Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, Juana Laura Pérez, said that at least 30 companies in Baja California have approached them asking for Haitian immigrant labor.

The Minister explained that the interested parties are in constant touch with them. They've explained to potential employers that the legal situation of hundred Haitians is being resolved and many of them will be able to work.

Fearing to cross to the United States, several Haitians decided to stay in Mexican territory, so they have gone to the National Institute of Migration (INM) to obtain their residence permit.

"We already have the employers ready, and I take the opportunity to invite them to speak to us, we are ready to be able to hire them in a formal way," Pérez Floriano said.

The companies interested in hiring Haitians are mainly from the manufacturing, service and agricultural sectors.

Pérez said that they are working with the INM so that foreigners can be regularized, and in that way, have the opportunity of being part of the formal labor force of the state.

"We cannot ignore they’re forming part of the economic activity of our state and that we as authorities are making this transversal effort, both the federal government and state government, to be able to generate better working conditions."
