Archdiocese plans pro-life march

Tijuana archbishop hopes thousands will turn out for annual walk

TIJUANA – The local archdiocese hopes to turn out thousands of people for its annual pro-life march Sunday morning.

Archbishop Rafael Romo said the march, called "United for Life and Peace," is a Christian demonstration without an ideological position.

However, in the last ten years, the march has also served to support the Church's traditional view against abortion.

The archbishop himself, announcing this Sunday's event, said the march "is in praise of life in general, from the beginning of gestation, from conception until a natural death."

The marchers are to depart from the old Tijuana bullring, located on Agua Caliente Boulevard, and are to end in the sports complex known as CREA in the Río zone.

An archdiocese coordinator, Benigno Medrano, said this particular march will promote values among students, especially in support of life.

Organizers hope that at least 10,000 people will turn out and have requested that they wear white clothing and carry white balloons.

Another coordinator, Antonio Beltrán, said other organizations that work for peace in the community are invited to participate in Sunday's march, scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
