Public Bus Drivers Vandalize Tijuana's New BRT Buses

This Friday morning the drivers of the SITT units reported the attack

Windshields and broken windows were the result of an attack caused by bus drivers from the old public transit system to the newer Integral Transportation System in Tijuana (SITT, in Spanish) in the El Niño neighborhood; fortunately no person was reported injured.

The SITT buses were transporting passengers at an early hour on Friday, March 31 when they were intercepted by buses from the Altisa and February 24 transit companies, blocking their passage and causing damage to the units.

Tijuana now shares its public transit system between the newer Bus Rapid Transit route (called SITT), and the older less efficient taxi and buses that have been the norm in the city for decades.

Frontera reported that they attacked the buses by hitting them with a bat; while Uniradio Informa highlights the comment of the SITT general secretary, Arturo Aguirre, about his friction with the company Altisa and others. They're scared, he says, because they old transit companies know just how much users save money and time with the newer SITT buses..
