Tijuana Students Will Continue Protest Against Abusive Public Transit Drivers

A peaceful march is expected for the next days at the City Hall of Tijuana

Students from the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), tired of the arbitrary (and unregulated) increase in public transit fares by drivers, have started a campaign since last week for both students and people in general to pay the approved and regulated fare, which is several pesos fewer than what many drivers are charging on their own.

Since last week, students have gathered at the bus stop in front of the UABC Tijuana Campus, to invite other students to pay the fee of 5 mexican pesos, according to their right as students, and for the people in general to pay their 10 mexican pesos

They were even offering high denomination bills so that users would only be able to pay their corresponding amount of money to the drivers in exact change.

Thanks to the support of citizens and the students community in general, they have called for a peaceful march to be held next Thursday, April 6.

At noon, students are invited to march peacefully from UABC to the City Hall located in Zona Rio with the purpose to demand the fulfillment of the promises that the current municipal president made during his campaign, which was to offer free public transportation to students.

The student community also invites the general public to join this march with the motto "Let's stop the rate increase".
