Former Baja Attorney General Wants More Drones Surveilling Tijuana

This technology proposal would reduce emergency response times due to the absence of security elements in the city

The former Tijuana attorney general has proposed a new plan for keeping the city safe: Drones for surveillance. The idea isn't as innovative as it would've been a couple of years ago, but with worries that crime is rising again, any proposal is worth taking another look, he says.

Currently there are more than two thousand police elements, but it takes up to 7,000 to cover the entire city.

Antonio Martines Luna, former attorney general, said at the "Forum for the Elaboration of Security Plan", that this proposal would reduce the time of response to emergencies in the city.

This is a proposal that is viable due to the conditions of the city, mainly because of the saturation of cars and the traffic in Tijuana.

The past administration tried this idea and worked with the acquisition of three drones that flew over the Downtown area of Tijuana, and the beach area.

A study would be needed to determine which areas need more vigilance, this to know how many drones would be needed, drones whose characteristics of some is to fly up to ten kilometers in height.
