This Nutritionist of Tijuana Shows You How to Make a Healthier Version of the Unicorn Frappuccino

So your body doesn't take that much sugar at once...

TIJUANA.- After Starbucks took the world for a wild, sugar filled trip with their new Unicorn Frappuccino, available only for a limited time, other businesses have tried to introduce products with the same theme, and those that already had similar drinks on their menu are trying to exploit it even more due to the boom of this colorful invention.

However, not everything is color unicorn, as many specialists have warned about the high sugar content, the calories, and the saturated fat the drink from Starbucks has. Trying to raise awareness for the health dangers about it, a few days ago, a nutritionist in Tijuana published an image of the nutritional table of the new Unicorn Frappuccino on a Facebook page called Nutriendo-T, pointing out that in fact, it is a terrible option for your body.

Given this, she did not only warned people of the content of this drink, but has offered a healthier proposal. The Nutrition and Food Science expert, Melisa Zelina Tellez, was given the task of looking for the improved version of the Unicorn Frappuccino, which has flavor, color, and above all, nutrition.

"Each serving gives us 302 kcal, 20.5 grams of added sugars, and 5 grams of fat, of which 2.75 grams are of saturated fat, also, it has 7.79 grams of fiber. EXACTLY, this new drink has FIBER, and 5.5 grams of protein, without artificial colors or flavorings,"says Tellez.

Here is the recipe:

INGREDIENTS:

⚫️ 6 large strawberries

⚫️ 1 banana

⚫️ 1/2 cup of chopped mango

⚫️ 2 Oz. of blueberries or huckleberries

⚫️ 2 Oz. of blackberries

⚫️ 2 teaspoons of agave honey

⚫️ 1 cup of whole milk (you can use the one of your taste: almond, soy, coconut, etc.)

⚫️ 120 ml. of blueberry yogurt

⚫️ 1 teaspoon of chia

⚫️ 2 cups of ice

TIP: The more the fruit ripens, the better the flavor will be and you will not have to add extra sugar.

HOW TO PREPARE IT:

1.- Wash and disinfect fruits.

2.- In a small pot or frying pan place a teaspoon of agave honey plus the 2 Oz. of blueberries, and put them to the heat.

3.- With a fork, crush the strawberry until it is a liquid jam. This will give us the bluish touch of this healthy frappe (although it seems purple at the end).

4.- Remove from heat and let it cool. Repeat the action in a clean container but now with the 2 Oz Of blackberries (which will give a reddish-purple touch).

5.- In a blender add the milk, the ice, the banana, the strawberries and the mango. Once that’s done, put it on the fridge. This mix will turn out pink.

6.- Prepare 2 glasses, place half of each honey as decorative inside the glass. Add the blender mixture. Serve the blueberries yogurt (instead of whipped cream), and the magic sprinkles will be the chia.

Now that is done, prepare yourself to enjoy the refreshing and nutritious version of the Unicorn Frappuccino!
