The Pacific Alliance is a political, economic, cooperation and integration mechanism between Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. Its main objective is to create an area of profound integration which pushes for greater growth, development, and competitiveness of the participating economies, through the progressive search for the free movement of goods, services, capital, and people. Another main objective is projection towards the world, particularly Pacific Asia, which profiles itself as a fundamental axis of this century's world economy.

The Alliance is based on affinity, more than proximity, all their members border the Pacific Ocean, but they are also in similar stages of economic growth and have constantly opened their economies to free trade and foreign direct investment (FDI).

During the "Business and Investment Opportunities in the Pacific Alliance" panel, the General Consul of Chile in Los Angeles, Jorge Tagle Canelo, commented that economic, social and cultural connections between members of the Pacific Alliance and Southern California are very strong. "Our mayor, Eric Garcetti, has described Los Angeles as the western capital of the United States, the northern capital of Latin America, and the eastern capital of Asia. In Los Angeles, 220 languages are spoken, this city has diasporas from each one of the member countries of the commercial block, there are 1.8 million Mexican immigrants, 35,000 Peruvian immigrants, 20,000 Colombians and 10,000 Chileans. There are consulates from the four countries that make up the Pacific Alliance to reinforce the ties and promote economic and cultural exchange," he added.

"Chile has a stable economic policies that have not changed despite having governments with different points of view, as well as an open mind towards the world which has converted the country into what it is today, an economy with active trade agreements with 60 countries," commented Tagle Canelo.
