In a significant boost for local sports, the government of Baja California has allocated 17 million pesos to modernize the athletics track at Ciudad Deportiva, bringing it up to international competition standards.

The project aims to provide a world-class training ground for the community, from aspiring young athletes to high-performance competitors. Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda inaugurated the renovated facility, highlighting its role in fostering community development and athletic excellence.

The investment ensures that both established and emerging athletes can train under conditions identical to those at major international events in an effort to strengthen the state’s sports development pipeline and nurture new talent.

“We trust in your talent and your dedication, and I know you do it with great passion, but above all, with a lot of heart. I congratulate you all, as well as parents and coaches, because without you, these young people couldn’t be here accomplishing their dreams,” the governor said.

The modernized complex now features dedicated stations for a range of disciplines, including the 100-meter dash, high jump, pole vault, hurdles, long jump, triple jump, and shot put. The new surface is specifically designed to help athletes improve their times and distances while reducing the risk of injury.

“We’ve experienced this type of track at national championships, and we know the quality and how much it will help us. It feels different, like a little cushion,” Alexia Reyna Libarría, a regular user of Ciudad Deportiva, said as this infrastructure will allow them to train safely and improve results.

To manage the new facility, a public schedule has been implemented. General community access will be available on lanes 7 and 8 from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., ensuring safe and organized training sessions for all users.
