Playas de Rosarito is set to solidify its reputation as the region’s premier destination for adventure tourism and mountain sports with the upcoming 6th edition of the “2026 Air Festival” (Festival del Aire).
Organized with the backing of the Playas de Rosarito Tourism and Conventions Committee (COTUCO), the festival aims to boost local economic activity while raising the municipality’s international profile.
The event is scheduled for June 26–28, 2026 and will take place at Playa Alisitos (Km. 58 of the Rosarito-Ensenada highway).
In addition, more than 50 professional paragliding and hang gliding pilots from Mexico, the United States, and South America are confirmed to take part as the 2026 Air Festival promises a vibrant blend of high-flying spectacle, cultural exhibits, and regional gastronomy.
Saúl Eduardo Álvarez Rojas, General Director of COTUCO Rosarito, underscored the festival’s broader impact beyond entertainment.
“This event doesn’t just fill our skies with color. It generates a ripple effect that directly supports our hotels, restaurants, and small businesses,” he said. “We are fully prepared to welcome athletes from across the globe, as well as families seeking a one-of-a-kind experience here in Playas de Rosarito.”

During a recent meeting, Luis Flores, representing Azteca Windel, stressed the importance of interinstitutional collaboration, noting that coordination among security agencies, sponsors, and local hoteliers has been instrumental in bringing the festival to life. Also in attendance were Tourism Commission councilor Alan Bautista and Rosarito Beach Hotel host Hugo Torres, both of whom echoed the sentiment that public-private partnerships are essential to the event’s long-term success.

Pilots and organizers alike point to the municipality’s exceptional geographic and climatic conditions as a key draw. Juan Carlos Guadarrama and Salomón Magno, representatives of Parapente Baja California, explained that the area’s terrain and weather patterns are ideally suited for safe, high-quality flight operations, factors that have attracted growing interest from international competitors year over year.
Public safety remains a top priority for event organizers. Héctor Manzo Ruvalcaba, the city’s Secretary of Citizen Security, announced that a specialized traffic control, security, and logistics operation will be deployed throughout the festival weekend. The plan includes close coordination with local emergency response teams to ensure a secure and enjoyable environment for both participants and spectators.
