Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana recently met with Francisco Alberto Bernal Rodríguez, head of the Baja California Peninsula Basin Organization of the National Water Commission (CONAGUA), where the importance of addressing priority issues related to water management was highlighted.
Strengthening infrastructure, coverage, services, and projects are some of the key issues included in the National Hydric Plan, implemented by the Government of Mexico led by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. All of these actions will be coordinated by the three levels of government.

One of this plan’s primary goals is to ensure that all people have access to water. As such, one of its main initiatives is to bring water services to all communities in Mexico, unifying efforts in infrastructure projects that resolve the main water problems plaguing every municipality in Mexico.
Mayor Ismael Burgueño of Tijuana spoke of the importance of providing potable water services to people who lack access to this vital resource, as this is one of the most recurring demands in the city’s Eastern Zone communities.

“Water access is a priority here in Tijuana, due to the nature of its dynamism and daily growth towards the Eastern Zone. One of people’s main requests is related to the lack of potable water, which is why implementing projects such as this one, where we work hand in hand with the federation and the state, is so important,” the mayor said.
Accompanied by CONAGUA officials, Francisco Alberto Bernal Rodríguez stated that in 2025, resources from the Social Infrastructure Contribution Fund (FAIS) will be allocated by the Government of Mexico, through CONAGUA, for short-, medium-, and long-term actions as part of the National Hydric Plan.

“We are carrying out a municipal diagnosis to determine which issues we can start working on. In the municipalities, we will mainly work with FAIS. As stated by the President of Mexico, more resources will be allocated to address issues related to potable water and treatment to benefit all communities,” Bernal Rodríguez said.
The 25th City Hall of Tijuana reiterates its commitment to work in a coordinated manner with the state and federation to provide well-being to all citizens by giving them access to public services and addressing their most pressing needs.
