In an effort to provide dignified, safe, and functional spaces for breastfeeding mothers visiting government offices, Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz officially inaugurated a new nursing room at City Hall, a comfortable and private environment where mothers can feed, care for, and tend to their babies while completing administrative procedures.

During the opening ceremony, Burgueño Ruiz was joined by City Auditor Teresita Balderas Beltrán and emphasized that the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to supporting women and their children during the breastfeeding stage.

“We are proud to open this nursing station here at City Hall, equipped with all the necessary amenities so that mothers can attend to their little ones while running errands. It is a fully stocked space that will be available to every visitor who needs it,” Burgueño Ruiz stated.

City Hall Area Undergoes Rehabilitation

Balderas Beltrán commended the mayor’s responsiveness to mothers’ long-standing need. As such, the nursing room underwent a complete rehabilitation after it was determined that the previous facilities were inadequate.

“The previous lactation room was inadequate which is why a renewal proposal was made to the mayor who approved it. Today, we have turned that project into reality,” she said.

Around 50 women are expected to use the facility each month. The upgraded space now features a diaper-changing station, two armchairs, a television, and a full range of supplies and equipment. The Municipal DIF (Family Development System) will oversee its daily operations.

Furthermore, the exterior wall of the nursing room now bears a mural created by local artist Berenice Linaldi. Both the mayor and the city auditor recognized Linaldi’s talent during the inauguration, noting that the artwork enhances the welcoming atmosphere of the new facility.

The revamped space is set to begin regular service this coming Monday, June 22 and is available to all women who need it.
