Tijuana Mayor Abdiel Gutiérrez Coronado broke ground on the “México Imparable” Community Center in the San Antonio de los Buenos district, a project developed in coordination with federal and state governments, designed to foster personal development and strengthening community ties in young people.
During the event, Mayor Abdiel Gutiérrez highlighted the support of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, noting that Tijuana’s inclusion in the national community center initiative.
“The México Imparable Community Center will give the young people of Tijuana a place to develop their talents across multiple disciplines,” the mayor said.
Tijuana is one of 60 municipalities nationwide selected to host a center under the program and highlights the federal administration’s commitment to the city and its younger generations.
Miguel Torruco Garza, Undersecretary of Violence Prevention at the federal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, reinforced the importance of investing in youth as a preventive strategy.
“It’s far better that our young people are addressing root causes, building community, and contributing positively to society,” he said.
Beatriz Adriana Olivares Pinal, head of the National Center for Crime Prevention and Citizen Participation, added that that many people from other places have made Tijuana their home and are now working and contributing to its development.
Despite its proximity to the United States, Tijuana remains deeply rooted in Mexican culture and tradition.
During the ceremony, Jesús Alberto Anaya Larios, General Resident of Carreteras Alimentadoras, outlined the center’s details and features.
The event also featured cultural performances, informational booths, and recreational activities, ball giveaways, and participation from agencies including IMJUV, IMAC, IMDET, and IMSAMA.
The México Imparable Community Center is part of an initiative aimed at reclaiming public spaces for young people and using sport, culture, and mental health support as tools for violence prevention and social cohesion.
Among those in attendance were City Auditor Teresita Balderas Beltrán; Abigail Lacombe Valdez, representative of the Secretariat of the Interior in Baja California; Edgar Ortiz Ángel, the governor’s liaison for social causes; Valeria Medina García, representative of the “Jóvenes Unen al Barrio” program; professional boxer Carlos García; along with municipal officials, youth ambassadors from the “Sembradores de Paz” program, and local residents.
With this project, the Tijuana City Hall reaffirms its commitment to collaborative governance, bringing together federal, state, and local authorities alongside citizens to reclaim community spaces, rebuild social fabric, and invest in the promise of the next generation.
