Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana led the city’s 50th “People’s Day” outreach event, connecting directly with residents at Technical Secondary School No. 26 in the El Porvenir neighborhood of Cerro Colorado Delegation. The initiative is designed to bridge the gap between the municipal government and the community by delivering services directly to the city’s neighborhoods.

Speaking to attendees, the mayor highlighted recent federal investments in Tijuana following a visit by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. He pointed to the inauguration of the first phase of a new elevated viaduct and the Rosario Castellanos National University as key projects for the city’s development.

The mayor also spoke of the “Tijuana Saludable” (Healthy Tijuana) program, the city’s preventive health strategy which offers free medical care among other services, while emphasizing that such programs are a way to return public resources to citizens in tangible ways.

“This face-to-face contact allows us to listen and respond to needs directly. Our duty is to guarantee fundamental rights like education and health, and to work for everyone. These programs are direct and unconditional because the resources belong to the people,” he said.

In addition, Mayor Ismael Burgueño called on attendees to actively participate in local initiatives, specifically urging the formation of official Citizen Committees in each of Tijuana’s 1,064 neighborhoods.

The event, which provided hundreds of residents with free government services, also served as a platform for local organizations. In attendance were Cerro Colorado Delegate Rosa Margarita García Zamarripa and members of the civil association “Rescate Juvenil Tijuana”, which promotes sports, cultural, and educational activities for youth with the aim of creating healthy, preventive environments.

The celebrations were energized by performances from the Juvenile Police Music Band, providing a festive backdrop to the day of community outreach and service.
