Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño Opens New Safe Pathway at 5 y 10 Intersection

The initiative follows a nationwide strategy promoted by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, which has been replicated in Tijuana.

Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz has inaugurated a new Safe Pathway in the city with the installation of 85 solar LED streetlights.

The newly illuminated space is located at the intersection known as “5 y 10” on Lázaro Cárdenas Boulevard, one of the busiest areas for both pedestrians and drivers.

During a nighttime tour alongside local residents, the mayor personally verified the placement and functionality of the lights, which span an 850-linear-meter stretch. The project represents an investment of $3,526,038 pesos and benefits more than 80,000 people directly and indirectly.

“We are here at 5 y 10, happy to showcase the full installation of the Safe Pathway, creating safe and well-lit conditions for everyone,” he said.

Improving Pedestrian Mobility

The initiative follows a nationwide strategy promoted by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, which has been replicated in Tijuana. The program is designed to guarantee physical safety and improve mobility for pedestrians, including students, women, and workers.

Through the recovery of public spaces, enhanced lighting, cleaning, and surveillance, the city aims to generate safe and dignified environments for its citizens.

The mayor was accompanied during the tour by Virginia Vargas González, Secretary of Territorial and Urban Development, and Adriana Guadalupe Barrera Hernández, Director of Municipal Public Services, as well as public lighting staff and the city’s cleaning department.
