Tijuana Police Arrest 226 in Citywide Crime Sweep

Authorities say the arrests span charges ranging from armed robbery and drug dealing to illegal firearm possession and vehicle theft.

The Tijuana Municipal Police have arrested 226 people suspected of involvement in a range of crimes, according to the city’s Department of Security and Citizen Protection.

City officials said the arrests are part of an ongoing push to improve public safety across Tijuana under Mayor Ismael Burgueño.

The sweep led to:

  • 1 arrest for unlawful deprivation of liberty
  • 15 arrests for illegal firearm possession, including four people allegedly found with long guns
  • 26 arrests tied to vehicle theft, along with the recovery of several stolen cars. Authorities are encouraging residents to check the department’s website to see if their vehicle has been recovered
  • 12 arrests for armed robbery
  • 62 arrests for alleged drug dealing
  • 29 arrests of people with active warrants
  • 81 additional arrests for other crimes

Officials said tips from residents played a key role in several of the arrests, crediting community reports with helping officers track down suspects and move cases forward.

Police are urging the public to continue reporting crimes by calling 911 or by using the city’s “Purple Button” and “Emergency Button” mobile apps, which are meant to provide fast assistance during emergencies.

The department said it will continue coordinating with state and federal authorities as part of its broader effort to make neighborhoods safer and curb crime.
