The U.S. Consulate General in Tijuana has paid tribute to Christopher Teal as he concludes his tenure as consul general and retires from the U.S. Foreign Service after 27 years.
In a message shared on social media, the Consulate thanked Teal for his leadership and highlighted his contributions to strengthening ties between the United States and Mexico during his time in Baja California.
A career focused on the border region
According to the Consulate, Teal traveled extensively throughout Baja California and Baja California Sur, where he witnessed the region’s economic dynamism, natural beauty and the close relationship between communities on both sides of the border.
The post also highlighted his support for binational educational initiatives, sports programs, cooperation with local authorities on public safety and joint efforts to address the long-running wastewater crisis affecting the Tijuana River.
Before serving in Tijuana, Teal also held diplomatic assignments in Guadalajara and Nogales, building much of his career around the U.S.-Mexico relationship.

“Being cross-border is a superpower”
Reflecting on his time in the region, Teal previously described the CaliBaja community as a unique example of cross-border collaboration.
“I witnessed the power of the cross-border family in the CaliBaja region every day. Being cross-border is a superpower.”
The Consulate concluded its farewell by thanking Teal for his commitment and leadership, wishing him success in retirement after nearly three decades of diplomatic service.
