"Through the manufacturing export industry, Mexico is truly reflected as a first world country"

Currently, within Mexico, there are both a lil´Mexico and a big Mexico;

Currently, within Mexico, there are both a lil´Mexico and a big Mexico; the problem is that these two Mexico move in opposite directions and grow at different speeds, said Emilio Cadena Rubio, president of the National Council of the Maquiladora Industry (Index), who was as special guest in the commitment ceremony of the Association of Economic Development and Industrial Tijuana, BC (DEITAC).

"The lil´ Mexico, as Ricardo Rafael calls it, is a Mexico that is moving fast, modernly-oriented, prosperously, technologically sophisticated, and possessing world class automotive and aerospace facilities. The problem is that we also have a traditional Mexico; one that is delayed without access to credit, moving slowly, that it is not technologically sophisticated, and often thrives in informality. Unfortunately, this Mexico, which Ricardo Rafael called the big Mexico, is very large, due to having eight out of ten Mexicans living within it," said Emilio Cadena.

How can we multiply that lil´ Mexico? The answer is, with productivity. According to the National Index president, in 1999 small firms in Mexico had 28% of the productivity of world-class companies, but by 2009 that figure had dropped to 8%, this means that Mexico has being drifting away from productivity.

"The only way to generate social mobility and prosperity is through productivity". To reach a growth of 3.5% GDP, productivity in this country has to triple, and for this to happen southern Mexico has to grow three times faster than the north,¨ he said, hence the importance of putting an end to looking at ourselves as regions, and begin seeing ourselves as an entire country.
