Mexican Banks Fail Government Inspections of Their Mortgage Practices

Eight out of nine banking institutions rated on their residential mortgages, obtained failing grades

According to an evaluation carried out by the National Board for the Protection and Defense of Financial Service Users (CONDUSEF for its acronym in Spanish), eight out of nine banking institutions rated on their residential mortgages, obtained failing grades. On average, all obtained a five out of ten.

The nine banks that were qualified hold 92 percent of the market. In other words, nine out of every ten users takes out a mortgage from one of these financial institutions.
