INE Will Give Parties More Than 6 Billion MXN In 2018

PRI receives the most public funding

The Prerogative and Political Party Board of the National Electoral Institute (INE for its acronym in Spanish) approved a budget of 6,788,900,023 MXN (approximately 351,665,021 USD) for national political parties and independent candidates to develop daily activities and campaign expenses in 2018.

In the itemization, political party campaigns will receive 2,148,166,623 MXN (approximately 111,275,031 USD) and 4,296,333,246 MXN (approximately 222,550,062 USD) will be destined to pay for political parties’ daily activities throughout the year.

For the 2018 fiscal year, the rest of the items that complete the more than 6 billion MXN are: for specific activities, 128,889,997 MXN (approximately 6,676,501 USD); for postal orders, 171,853,330 MXN (approximately 8,902,002 USD); and for telegraph orders 693,495 MXN (approximately 35,923 USD) will be set aside.

The 6.8 billion MXN approved for public funding for political parties represent the largest budget in the history of Mexico destined to finance politics, according to the INE.

In 2012, a presidential election year, the amount set aside for daily activities and campaign expenses amounted to 5,142,514,887 MXN (approximately 266,639,396.89USD) and in 2006 it amounted to 4,171, 096, 908 MXN (approximately 216,062,819 USD).
