Far-right candidate in Brazil leads despite being racist, misogynist and homophobic

Jair Bolsonario is going straight to the top

Far-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro scored 46.70% of votes in the presidential elections which took place today in Brazil, according to official data, with 95.57% of all votes counted, which confirms he will be facing progressive candidate Fernando Haddad, who won 28.37% of votes, in a second round.

The Worker's Party (PT) candidate, hand-picked by former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva himself after he was unable to run due to being jailed pending a corruption accusation, has secured the second place and a place in the second round of the election, which will take place on 28 October.
