If the citizens want it, there will be a trial for former presidents

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador talked about the decision to prosecute and send to jail the former presidents

On November 20th, around 10:30 PM, the president-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador stated in an interview with Ciro Gomez Leyva on Imagen Noticias, that the decision of prosecuting the former presidents Carlos Salinas de Gortari, Ernesto Zedillo, Vicente Fox, Felipe Calderon and Enrique Peña Nieto, will depend on the citizens of the country pressuring.

“It will depend on what the Mexican citizens have to say. It will depend on the pressure made by them. To punish the people responsible of the national tragedy of the Mexican crisis, we would have to start from the top, since this sort of administration started, from the top, not the scapegoats like always”

However, the president-elect stated that he advocates the politics of “end point” because opening the files of former presidents will lead to a permanent confrontation in the country, which will only bog down the overview and block any solutions to the problems.

“This pressure can happen; we shouldn’t dismiss it. In a democratic system, the country’s people have the final say. We’re not going to prosecute anyone but whoever has an open judgment, the competent authority will investigate them.
