Tourists ignore Playas de Tijuana boardwalk closure and enter anyway

Citizens and visitors were reported enjoying the weather close to the sea this weekend

Playas de Tijuana has remained closed to the public in order to prevent more infections by coronavirus in the city. The area has been cordoned off to prevent anyone from entering. This is used as a preventive measure amid the current pandemic, however, this weekend things changed and citizens as well as visitors did not follow this preventive measure.

Citizens and visitors were reported enjoying the weather close to sea this weekend in Playas de Tijuana. A coverage by TELEMUNDO 20, confirms that despite the municipal police´s patrolling, people easily crossed the restricted area and enjoyed the beach visit.

On the other hand, not only did tourism rise this weekend but traffic did too. Entire families on board of cars, there was even a parade of car classics.

Also, this weekend hundreds of Americans crossed the border and arrived to celebrate the 4th of July. The restaurant scene of Playas de Tijuana has evidence of that.

“We have been benefiting a little bit because of the Ensenada and Rosarito blockage, there not letting people pass, so they are staying here and we are taking that into our advantage even if it's just 30% because there is nothing else”, Jorge Ramírez, a restaurant owner of the area told TELEMUNDO 20.

It is presumed that elements of the police looked constantly around the place and that loitering and the access to the norwalk were prohibited. They gave a warning through the unit´s speaker.

“They are not wearing face masks, even though we are still in the state of contingency”, the police pointed out.
