In an interview for San Diego Red, Antonio Gamboa, founder of Telefónica Gastro Park talked a little about TripAdvisor's recent Traveller's Choice 2020 award, which ranks them among the top 10% of the world's most popular restaurants.
"We were both surprised and flattered by everything they told us. A little medal to Tijuana, because they say many bad things about Tijuana sometimes, but there are many good things in Tijuana like the gastronomy, the craft beer and its people; and I believe here in Telefónica we encapsulate those three things - mentioned Gamboa - they told us that they were going to send us the little medal, they had always given us excellence but now we were surprised by this one" he added.
Currently, "La Telefónica", as many Tijuana residents call it because it was originally located near a well-known telephone company in the city, has 14 food establishments, offering a variety of options for local and foreign visitors, and therefore an experience.
In addition, many of the chefs in this iconic place in the border city are nationally and internationally recognized professionals, adding their touch in the preparation and presentation of their dishes using innovative techniques, with fresh seafood and local ingredients.
Both those who come from out of town and the residents of Tijuana "see us as an offer where they feel safe, confident, that we are going to give them a good deal, that they are going to eat something good, at a reasonable price and that beer is always very cold," Antonio acknowledged.
As good Baja California natives, Telefónica Gastro Park, which was founded in 2014, has its own beer, Lírica, which has also received several awards, most recently in 2019, said Antonio Gamboa.
As if that were not enough, this gastronomic park is Pet Friendly, showing how it has several characteristics that allow it to please its guests, such as those on the other side of the border, who "feel at home, with the confidence to taste, drink, talk to people, I think they leave satisfied and because it is the intention, our standards are very high," said its
founder.
With all these aspects together, you can understand why this space is popular not only in its own country, but worldwide.
In the face of the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Telefónica Gastro Park was one of the first establishments to return to the New Normal thanks to the implementation of the sanitary protocols established by the authorities.
"If we weren't the first, we were one of the first restaurants that to have the green light to open, since we had extraordinary measures, we went beyond the protocol: we have a sanitizing tunnel on one side, our toilets already have sensors, you have to ask for food through an application, the waiters don't touch the money, you can't enter without a mask, we take the temperature, we make sure that your hands are constantly sanitized," explained Gamboa.
With this and other recognitions, Antonio Gamboa said he feels committed to maintaining and improving his service as well as continuing to learn for the benefit of the city.
