During the morning conference of the President of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, informed that last October 30th the doses to carry out the phase three of the global clinical trials of CanSinoBio's COVID-19 vaccine arrived in the country.

With this first shipment of what could be the vaccine against the new coronavirus, which is originated in China, between 10 and 15 thousand Mexicans over 18 years old will be able to test it in 20 health centers distributed in 12 entities of the Republic. Baja California is among these entities, according to the State Health Secretary, Alonso Perez Rico, in his daily update of cases by COVID-19.

"This vaccine is experimental, it is to make the phase 3, it is not the COVID vaccine; it may have side effects or it simply does not seem to be safe. Baja California is not going to participate in this study; Cofepris has already authorized this vaccine. We are not going to be one of these states because there are several phases and several vaccines that can be implemented in our country, but we will not be one of them; we would like to put something in place that is safe and shows effectiveness," explained Perez Rico.

Meanwhile, the Mexicans that will participate represent a third of the volunteers that this trial will have at a global level, which are between 30 and 40 thousand people, and where countries like Chile, Argentina, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Russia and China also participate, as mentioned by Marcelo Ebrard this Tuesday, November 3rd.

It is worth mentioning that unlike the other candidate vaccines for Mexicans, the one from CanSino Biologics is the only one that is applied in only one dose.

The Chancellor added that this dose has already been "successfully administered to members of the armed forces in China".
