After it was reported last Monday that Baja California Governor Jaime Bonilla tested positive for COVID-19 after taking the PCR test on Sunday, December 6, this morning Health Secretary Alonso Pérez Rico confirmed that the governor was admitted to Tijuana's General Hospital as a preventive measure since he was experiencing severe head and body pain.

"I just saw him about 30, 40 minutes ago before I arrived here for the transmission. He is in good health, he is in good spirits, he is in one of our medical units at the Ministry of Health. He does not currently require supplemental oxygen, he is saturating above 96% oxygen, he is being given intravenous medication to reduce inflammation, his lung has some degree of inflammation, a pneumonia has not yet developed, but we do not want him to get there, which is precisely why he was admitted," he explained.

Pérez Rico affirmed that if everything goes as it has so far, the governor can be released tomorrow or within 48 hours at the latest, since this was only part of a preventive protocol for administering intravenous medication in a controlled environment.

Let's remember that this is the second time that the governor has been diagnosed with COVID-19, to which the Secretary of Health added that this is not the only case of reinfection but that at least 22 patients have presented themselves, including one health official and staff.

"For reinfections, the situation is milder, much less aggressive, but it is not always the case. Today, in the governor´s scenario, he spent 24 hours with intense headache and body pain. I have spoken to him and he says it is the strongest head and body pain he has ever experienced. Today he no longer has a headache or body pain, he is just tired, he is recovering".
