Baja California with 563 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 on Christmas day

Hospital occupancy in the state is 81 percent

Like everyday, the Secretary of Health, Alonso Pérez Rico, presented his report on the situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic present in Baja California. According to the doctor, 563 Baja Californians were hospitalized because COVID-19 in the state and 232 patients were intubated during Christmas day, while the hospital occupation in the region is 81.58 percent, with 139 beds available and 102 ventilators.

Regarding the exponential way in which the number of intubated patients grew during October, November and December, the Secretary of Health commented: "we believe that we are already reaching our peak because precisely the suspected cases are already stabilizing. That is a first phase, but we have to be careful, because this is related to the partial decrease in mobility".

As of this Friday morning, of the Ministry of Health's COVID hospitals with the highest occupancy rates, it is the General of Tijuana, which has an occupancy rate of 90.76 percent. Among the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) hospitals, the General Hospital of Zone 30, located in Mexicali, has an 85.88 percent occupancy rate.

The accumulated positive cases add up to 31 thousand 345, of which Mexicali, Tijuana and Ensenada register most of this total, as well as the 331 new cases reported; being as follows: 13 thousand 517 (118 new), 10 thousand 380 (147 new) and 4 thousand 552 (23 new) respectively.

According to Pérez Rico, 82 new deaths were recently reported as a result of COVID-19, corresponding to a cumulative total of five days. Of these new deaths, 36 were located in Mexicali, 28 in Tijuana, 13 in Ensenada, four in San Quintín and one in Tecate.

The total number of people who have died in Baja California from coronavirus is 5 thousand and 52, of which only 2 thousand 213 were in Tijuana and 2 thousand and 98 in Mexicali. Remember that the state is still under a red light and there are still 893 active cases: 335 in Mexicali, 219 in Tijuana, 151 in Ensenada, 36 in Tecate, 34 in San Quintín, 30 in Rosarito and 28 in San Felipe.
