Baja California accumulates one thousand 343 active cases; more than 500 are located in Tijuana

335 new cases and 53 deaths have been registered due to COVID-19.

Baja California started this Thursday with one thousand 343 active cases of COVID-19, 565 of them located in Tijuana; while the rest were registered as follows: 431 in Mexicali, 197 in Ensenada, 57 in San Quintín, 41 in Rosarito, 30 in San Felipe and 22 in Tecate.

According to the head of the Secretary of Health, Alonso Pérez Rico, this explosion of cases is due to the fact that more antigen tests are being performed in the fever clinics, which give results in 30 minutes. He also commented that the price of the conglomerations is still being paid. In view of this, he said that the important thing now is to control these cases since at least 80% will be ambulatory and only 20% will go to hospitals.

On the other hand, it was reported that on Tuesday 335 new cases were registered, 178 of them in Tijuana. During the same period, 53 deaths due to COVID-19 were also reported, 26 of which occurred in Mexicali.

Thus, the number of Baja Californians who have tested positive for COVID-19 is 38 thousand 601, most of them registered in Mexicali (15 thousand 291). While the number of people who lost their lives in the state is 6 thousand 353, most of these occurred in Tijuana (2 thousand 810).

After observing that the Effective Reproduction Rate rose to 1.3, when it is recommended to be below one, the Secretary of Health said that "we are losing the battle" since now one person with COVID-19 is infecting two more.
