Sanitary filters continue this weekend at crossing points to enter Baja California

Learn about the prevention measures against COVID-19 that are checked at these filters and the cost of fines in case of non-compliance.

As a preventive measure against the current COVID-19 pandemic, Mexican authorities have opted to install sanitary filters every weekend at the West Border between Calexico, California, and Mexicali, Baja California.

However, despite the fact that Monday is a holiday in Mexico, according to the Mexican Consulate General in San Diego, these filters will be in place until Sunday, January 31 from 2:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight.

For its part, the U.S. General Consulate in Tijuana pointed out that among the measures that will be reviewed in these filters are: mandatory use of masks, detection of symptoms and taking of temperature, maximum of two people per vehicle and verification that the purpose of the trip is considered essential.

"U.S. citizens are encouraged to comply with the instructions of the Mexican authorities or risk fines of 3,475 to 17,376 pesos or arrest," the U.S. Consulate maintained.
