Baja California and San Diego will investigate incidence and prevalence of COVID-19 on the Mexican side.
One thousand 500 households in Tijuana, Mexicali and Ensenada will be sampled.

The head of the Baja California Health Department, Alonso Pérez Rico, announced the research project being carried out by this agency in conjunction with other institutions in the state as well as in San Diego. The objective of the research is to know more realistic estimates on the incidence and prevalence of SARS-CoV2 infection in the Baja California population.

Among the institutions that will collaborate in this project are the Secretariat of Health of Baja California, the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), El Colegio de la Frontera Norte, UC San Diego, as well as the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs.

What will be done? According to Pérez Rico, personnel from the epidemiology area of the Ministry of Health will visit 500 homes in Tijuana, 500 in Mexicali and 500 in Ensenada, to collaborate as a sample and thus determine the incidence and prevalence, since they are "the three most populated centers in our state".

It is worth mentioning that these personnel will have a yellow vest and an identification that will validate them to carry out the field work, which consists of applying a questionnaire and performing a PCR-TR, antigen and antibody test free of charge, providing the results right then and there to the participants.

The Secretary commented that one does not apply as a volunteer, since the neighborhoods attended are previously selected. "It is going to be probabilistic, they are going to say these are the neighborhoods that are selected, following a model, a theoretical framework of a research study," he commented.

When will it begin? As of this Monday, February 1, it will begin, and is expected to end next February 5, as reported.
