Mexico surpasses 171 thousand deaths due to COVID-19

Stage one of the national vaccination program concludes this coming Monday, February 15.

The Secretariat of Health (SS) informed that Mexico registered around one thousand 474 deaths caused by coronavirus in the last day, accumulating 171 thousand 234 deaths so far.

Meanwhile, identified infections amount to one million 966 thousand 566 including the recent increase of 10 thousand 677 recorded in 24 hours.

At a national level, hospital occupancy remains at 46%, with Mexico City and the State of Mexico being the only entities that exceed 70% of hospitalization due to COVID, at least in normal beds, since ventilator beds remain occupied at 43% according to national statistics.

According to the Secretary of Health, Hugo Lopez-Gatell, as of this Thursday, 725 thousand 477 vaccines have been administered, with 335 doses applied yesterday. Gatell also reminded the population that we are only in stage 1 of the national vaccination program, aimed only at members of the health sector, which will end this coming February 15.

Currently, Mexico continues to hold the number 3 position in the countries with the most confirmed deaths due to the SARS Cov-2 virus, followed by Brazil in second place with 236 thousand 201 deaths and the United States leading the "top" with 475 thousand 40 deaths so far in the pandemic. Worldwide, 107.7 million confirmed cases have been recorded.
