Governor Marina del Pilar announced today the seizure of a massive 20-ton haul of methamphetamine, an operation that strikes a severe $640 million financial blow to the criminal organizations plaguing the state. This seizure, which took place between October 2024 and August 30, 2025, was the result of coordinated efforts by the multi-agency Baja California Security Council.

The governor revealed that, according to data provided by Mexico’s Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), this record bust represents a 382% increase in seized narcotics compared to a prior operational period. The governor pointed to this statistic as clear evidence that the state’s reinforced security strategy is successfully targeting the flow of illicit substances in the streets.

The operation’s success was highlighted by a recent incident in Ensenada, where the National Guard and SEDENA units intercepted two vehicles carrying over 3,600 kilograms of methamphetamine. That single operation alone accounted for an estimated $116 million loss for the criminal groups involved.

Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda credited the breakthrough to unprecedented collaboration between state, federal, and municipal authorities to restore peace and tranquility to the citizens of Baja California.

The announcement aligns with a national trend reported by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, who cited a 25% in homicides across Mexico. Baja California is reportedly outperforming the national average, achieving a 36% reduction in killings.

In addition, the governor vowed that the pressure on criminal elements would not relent and that they will use all available human and technological resources to prioritize the safety and well-being of Baja Californian families.
