Mexico received 800 thousand Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines from China this Saturday, bringing this second shipment to one million doses.

The first shipment arrived on February 20 with 200 thousand vaccines, following the authorization of emergency use by the Federal Commission for the Protection of Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) on February 9.

In addition to the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard, the Chinese Ambassador in Mexico, Zhu Qingqiao, the General Director of ISSSTE, Luis Antonio Ramirez Pineda, the Undersecretary Martha Delgado and Dr. Pedro Zenteno Santaella, from BIRMEX, were also present at the delivery.

Ebrard acknowledged the delivery of these vaccines as part of China's commitment to this country during the month of February and added that "for us it is very important because it helps us to keep up the pace of the vaccination plan".

For his part, Ambassador Zhu Qingqiao said: "The close cooperation between the secretariats of both countries and the companies [...] has played a crucial role in achieving these successes that we have conquered".
