According to the Secretary of Health of Baja California, Alonso Perez Rico, the Effective Reproduction Rate (ER), indicator that shows how many times COVID-19 is reproducing or spreading in the state, is at 0.78, which means that one person with coronavirus can infect one more in this territory.

However, he explained that when analyzing this indicator by municipality, Tecate and Tijuana are the ones with the highest RT at 1.29 and 1.05, respectively. According to the head of this agency, this means that here a person diagnosed with COVID-19 can transmit it to two more people.

"Let's remember, above one we are losing the battle. If this is a war, in these war fields, Tecate and Tijuana, today we are losing to COVID. Above one: for each person that gets infected, that person can infect two people, we have to reduce the Effective Reproduction Rate to below one. How can we reduce it? By using personal protection measures, using masks, I have to keep my distance, wash my hands, I don't have to go to crowded areas with bad ventilation", detailed the Secretary.

He added that one of the ways to reduce these chains of transmission as a government is by reducing capacity or closing activities. To avoid this, they asked the residents of these municipalities for co-responsibility.

On the other hand, he mentioned that in the last 24 hours 63 new cases were registered, of which 29 were reported in Tijuana. At the same time, in the same period of hours, 29 deaths were added due to COVID-19, 14 of which also occurred in the border city.

As of Tuesday morning there are 398 active cases in Baja California, 186 of them in Tijuana, 95 in Mexicali, 50 in Ensenada, 34 in San Quintin, 20 in Rosarito, 12 in Tecate and one in San Felipe.

So far in the pandemic there have been 43 thousand 928 positive cases and 7 thousand 508 deaths.
